Brit Award for Paul Mealor
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Professor Paul Mealor, of the University of Aberdeen, on his composition, Wherever You Are, winning the Classical Brit Award for single of the year; notes that the song, which he composed for the Military Wives and Gareth Malone, was number one in both the classical and pop charts at the same time; understands that Professor Mealor is the first classical composer to achieve such a feat; believes that 2011-12 has been an exceptional time for Professor Mealor, and congratulates him on his recent success including his composition, Ubi Caritas, being performed at the Royal Wedding and being voted the nation’s favourite living composer by the Classic FM Hall of Fame.
