The Cumnock Tryst
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the launch of the new musical festival, the Cumnock Tryst; understands that this will be held in Cumnock in October 2014; notes that it is being spearheaded by the Cumnock native and accomplished composer, James MacMillan, who will be the artistic director, and that the acclaimed Ayrshire-born international violinist, Nicola Benedetti, has agreed to be its patron; understands that the festival will feature choral and brass music, which have been a strong musical tradition in the town, and will be showcased across five venues: St John the Evangelist Church, where James MacMillan was once organist, Cumnock Academy, which will stage an educational project, the Victorian town hall, Old Cumnock Church and Dumfries House; pays tribute to James MacMillan on his efforts to use his hometown as a stage to attract the finest international classical artists and musicians to perform and for what it sees as his firm commitment to ensure that the community is at the heart of the festival activities, and wishes the Cumnock Tryst every success.
