St Andrew's Day Debating Competition

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Max Cochrane of Bearsden Academy and Duncan Crowe of the University of Glasgow on winning the St Andrew's Day Debating Competition 2013, the final of which was staged in the chamber of the Parliament on 2 December 2013; extends congratulations to the other finalists, Matteo Catanzano from the University of Glasgow, Erin Sanderson from Balfron High School, Declan Maxwell from the University of Strathclyde, Ciara Mitchell from the High School of Dundee, Mehra Raghav from the University of St Andrews and Ewan Redpath from Madras College; congratulates the other schools and universities that took part in the whole day of debating, Annan High School, Bellshill Academy, Jordanhill Academy, Bucksburn Academy, Crieff High School, Craigmount High School, Douglas Academy, Forfar Academy, Linlithgow Academy, Loretto School, Whitburn Academy, Menzieshill High School, St Margaret’s Academy, St Margaret’s High School, Stewart’s Melville College, Tain Royal Academy, Wallace High School, Wellington High School and Uddingston Grammar School as well as the University of Edinburgh and the University of Aberdeen, and congratulates English-Speaking Union Scotland on instituting and organising what it considers this unique competition, which pairs university students and school pupils in a single competitive team.
