Cervical Cancer Prevention Week
The motion
That the Parliament notes that 19 to 25 January is Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, which is aimed at raising awareness of cervical cancer and how it can be prevented; understands that, although all women aged 24 to 60 are invited to a free cervical screening test every three years, over 20%, particularly those from disadvantaged areas, do not attend for screening; is concerned that 313 women in Scotland were diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2011 and that 112 died from the condition in 2012; hopes that more women will attend screening and that relevant community specific information can be made available to women about cervical cancer symptoms and related issues; commends the European Cervical Cancer Association on launching Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, and recognises what it considers the excellent work of Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust in supporting women and their families.
