LGBT History Month in South Lanarkshire

The motion

That the Parliament notes that February 2014 is LGBT History Month; congratulates South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture and its partners, including LGBT Youth Scotland, Creative Scotland, LEAP Sports, NHS Lanarkshire, OurStory Scotland, Saltire Thistle FC, South Lanarkshire Council, Stonewall Scotland and the Terrance Higgins Trust on developing a programme of events and exhibitions in South Lanarkshire to celebrate the lives of LGBT people, LGBT culture and history in an LGBT context; further congratulates LGBT Youth Scotland on delivering the LGBT History Month project across Scotland; understands that, in South Lanarkshire, East Kilbride Arts Centre will host The Queer Window Project, an exhibition containing a series of 15 portraits and 30 photographs depicting LGBT people by the Glasgow artist, Lucy Holmes-Elliott; further understands that among the range of events and exhibitions taking place are the OurStory Scotland oral histories in Low Parks Museum in Hamilton, a film night in Rutherglen Town Hall, the Rainbow 5K Trail Run at Chatelherault Country Park, gay-friendly football with Saltire Thistle FC, Horse McDonald in Concert at Lanark Memorial Hall and Words With Wings in Hamilton Town House Library, and considers LGBT History Month to be a significant opportunity for both LGBT and non-LGBT people to reflect on LGBT histories and acknowledge the recent progress that Scotland has made toward equality.
