The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the charity, Let’s Talk About Mouth Cancer, on holding a mouth cancer awareness event in Bristo Square in Edinburgh from 10 to 12 March 2015, recognises the importance of self-examination to empower the public in the fight against mouth cancer; is concerned that studies show that cases of this debilitating form of cancer, which kills more people than road traffic accidents, have increased by up to 50% in the last decade in the UK and that rates are at their highest in Scotland; understands the need to raise awareness of this life-threatening condition as well as training healthcare professionals to detect mouth cancer as early as possible, and congratulates Let’s Talk About Mouth Cancer on its previous successful campaigns, bringing together NHS Lothian, the University of Edinburgh and the Minority Ethnic Health Inclusion Service, and on providing a cancer screening service.
