The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the first year of operation of the iSave initiative by Renfrewshire Council, whereby all S1 pupils are offered a credit union account with a £10 opening balance provided by the council; notes what it sees as the success of the initiative as over half of the S1 pupils have signed up for iSave; welcomes the involvement of Renfrewshire Wide Credit Union, Johnstone Credit Union and Scotwest Credit Union and the creation of credit unions in schools across Renfrewshire; notes what it considers the educational and financial benefits that the iSave initiative provides to young people in terms of the promotion of responsible saving and borrowing, and calls on the Scottish Government to develop a national iSave initiative with credit unions and schools across Scotland.
