Moray Students Selected for Italian Opportunity
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the three Moray School of Art students who have been selected to take part in the 2015 Scotland + Venice learning programme; understands that this initiative provides young art students and recent graduates with opportunities to develop their skills and make contacts at La Biennale di Venezia, which is the largest art exhibition in the world; notes that the students, Julija Astasonoka, who is originally from Latvia but now lives in Elgin, Hester Grant from Inverness and Amanda Lightbody from Stonehaven, are studying for a BA (Hons) in fine art with the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI); further notes that they have been given the opportunity to spend a month at the Venice event between May and September; recognises that they are part of a team of 28 Scotland-based students and graduates who are overseeing the daily set up of an exhibition by the Scottish artist, Graham Fagen, and providing visitors with information about Graham and his work; acknowledges that this is the first time the Scotland + Venice learning programme has hosted UHI students, and welcomes what it sees as this wonderful opportunity for students from Scotland to acquire professional skills that are highly relevant to their chosen field.
