The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that, to mark its centenary, the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) has announced details of the Festival of Architecture 2016; believes that this will be an ambitious year-long celebration of the country's architecture and will be much more than just a 100th anniversary celebration; understands that it will seek to raise awareness of the importance of a well-built environment and help inform communities throughout the country of the economic and social benefits of good architecture; believes that it will provide an opportunity to emphasise and celebrate the quality of Scotland's architectural heritage and contemporary design; understands that it will be celebrated across the country with events, creative commissions, school and community educational programmes, new online resources, touring exhibitions, pop-up architecture and competitions; welcomes the proposed additional resources to support what it considers RIAS’s widely-acclaimed doors-open day events; understands that Scotland’s top 100 buildings over the past century will be showcased and that the Parliament, the Burrell Collection in Glasgow and St Andrew's House in Edinburgh are among the hundreds expected to be nominated by the public as part of the Scotstyle exhibition that will tour the country; notes that the festival will receive funding from the Scottish Government and VisitScotland, and hopes that it will help transform the country's relationship with its built environment.
