Fresh Opportunity and Growth for Scotland’s Food and Drink Sector

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the publication of the Bank of Scotland’s fourth annual food and drink sector report, Fresh Opportunity and Growth; notes the report’s estimate that the industry will establish 14,000 new jobs by 2020 and that two-thirds of Scotland's food and drink businesses are planning to develop new products, with a strong focus on developing international markets; understands that there are still pressures facing the industry, including labour costs and regulation; highlights what it considers the importance of provenance to the sector, with just under three-quarters of those who took part in the report saying that they are capitalising on the Scottish heritage of their products, and believes that the industry, in Aberdeenshire West and throughout Scotland, is well positioned to capitalise on further growth opportunities for 2016 and beyond.
