Motion · S4M-14469 · 6 Oct 2015
Scottish Mental Health Awareness Week
The motion
That the Parliament supports Scottish Mental Health Awareness Week from 5 to 11 October 2015; understands that one in three GP attendances relate to mental ill-health, and that one in four people will experience a mental health problem each year; considers that, although considerable progress has been made since the formation of the Parliament, too many people with mental health problems still experience high rates of unemployment and persistent stigma and discrimination; recognises that the Scottish Government’s mental health strategy will shortly conclude and notes the view that further, cross-governmental work on mental health must continue throughout the next parliamentary session and beyond; further considers that the forthcoming devolution of the Work Choice programme and the Work Programme in 2017 provides an opportunity to redesign and deliver integrated and effective employability services for people with mental health problems and who are otherwise disabled, and supports the ambitions of the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH), including its horticulture project in Kirkcaldy, and positive mental health and wellbeing for everyone in Scotland.
