Salaries of Senior Charity Employees

Lodged by Elaine Murray Standard Motion 15 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament is shocked by what it sees as the excessive levels of salary of the chief executive officers of some national charities; understands that this includes the Scottish SPCA, whose CEO is reported to be given a combined salary and other benefits totalling £230,000; believes that such charities are dependent on gifts from members of the public who are on far lower incomes; understands that the Scottish SPCA closed its rescue centre in Shetland in 2015 on the grounds that, at £13,000 per year, it was too expensive to run, and believes that, in recognition that donations are made for the purposes of the charity, such bodies should pay salaries that are neither excessive nor for the enrichment of staff, but that are fair and reasonable instead.
