St Andrews Open Championship's £140 Million Boost to Scotland's Economy

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes reports that the 2015 Open Championship in St Andrews brought £140 million to Scotland’s economy, including £52 million to Fife; understands that experts at the Sheffield Hallam University Sport Industry Research Centre crunched the numbers and argued that this represented the largest amount achieved by a golf event in the UK and Ireland; believes that golf is one of Scotland’s favourite activities and provides a wide range of health and financial benefits to communities; understands that more than two thirds of all visitors to the Open, and 80% of visitors from the UK, said that they expected to return to Scotland due to the positive experience that they had had, and congratulates the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews on hosting what it believes was an exciting and successful Open Championship in 2015.
