Wee Red Songbook of 101 Scottish Songs Republished

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Harper Collins on its decision to republish 101 Scottish Songs, which was originally published in 1962 and remained in print for 26 years; notes that the re-launch took place at the Celtic Connections festival as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the Traditional Music and Song Association of Scotland; considers that this was a highly appropriate platform to display the breadth and wealth of traditional music today; understands that 11 of the entries in the "wee red songbook", which was compiled by the late Norman Buchan, are by Robert Burns and that more performers and session singers are finding it a rich resource; believes it to be a wide-ranging collection that generations of musicians have been able to dip into, and hopes that a whole new generation of singers and musicians can enjoy the songs, which range from children’s rhymes to bothy ballads.
