The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Feis Rois on reaching its 30th anniversary; congratulates all those involved in Feis Rois over the years on influencing many thousands of people to learn, play, enjoy and teach traditional music, Gaelic language and culture; welcomes Feis Rois's commitment to young people across Ross and Cromarty by way of weekly classes, across the Highlands and Islands through two residential weeks of tuition for junior and senior school pupils, and across the UK and abroad through the adult Feis weekend, the national programme of traditional music in schools and what it considers the famous "Ceilidh Trails"; notes what it sees as the success of Feis's anniversary celebrations as part of Celtic Connections, showcasing the music of participants from each of the last 30 years; acknowledges what it considers the superb talent of all of the musicians who took part, including John Somerville, whose commissioned composition, Hector, it considers a wonderful and moving arrangement invoking joy, fear, despair and hope of emigrants leaving the Highlands for Nova Scotia through a series of slow airs, strathspeys, jigs and Gaelic song, and wishes Feis Rois many successes in the next 30 years.
