The Sad Passing of Lt-Col Henry Worsley

The motion

That the Parliament notes the sad passing of Lt-Col Henry Worsley, a special forces veteran whose courage, spirit, tenacity and single-minded commitment to following in the footsteps of Ernest Shackleton by attempting to complete the first solo crossing of Antarctica, from Gould Bay to the Ross Ice Shelf via the South Pole, it considers inspirational; considers that Lt-Col Worsley’s efforts not only reflect the great capacity of what humans can achieve and endure, but have also raised more than £200,000 so far for the Endeavour Fund, which supports sporting or adventurous challenges conducted by wounded, injured or sick service personnel and veterans from across the UK, including the South Scotland region, and acknowledges the loss faced by his family and friends, which, it believes, is made all the more poignant by the scale of what he achieved and by the relatively short distance that he had left to complete this most ambitious of adventures.
