Guide Dogs for the Blind Association

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association on the launch of its new publication, Enhancing Care Provision for Blind and Partially Sighted People in GP Surgeries: Guidelines for Best Practice; notes that the launch of the guidelines represents a key milestone in the charity’s Access for All – NHS Services campaign; notes that over 95% of visually-impaired people surveyed by the association have never received letters or prescriptions in a format that they could read, such as Braille, large-print or email; further notes that over half felt that access to and within their local GP surgery needed improvement; recognises the real need for visual impairment awareness training for all NHS staff; acknowledges the need to make services and information fully accessible for blind and partially-sighted people, and calls for the support of the Scottish Executive in rolling out the best practice guidelines to all GP surgeries in Scotland.
