Congratulations on the Success of the 4th Annual Homeless World Cup

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the organisers of the 2006 Homeless World Cup on the success of the tournament held in Cape Town, South Africa; notes that 500 homeless people from 48 countries took part in the competition, opened by South African President, Thabo Mbeki, and that the first ball was kicked by the legendary Eusebio, the first African-born football superstar; further notes that last year’s Homeless World Cup was held in Edinburgh and recognises the very significant and continuing Scottish contribution to the event’s enormous success, ranging from Mel Young who is President of the Homeless World Cup, the Big Issue in Scotland, the many Scottish volunteers, staff and referees to, last but not least, the Scottish team; congratulates Scotland coach, David Duke, and his players: Francis Brodie, William Scott, James Shearer, Derek Spiers, Marc Steel, Liam Young, Laura Graham and Lindsay Cooper, who won the Female Player of the Tournament award, on lifting the prestigious Big Issue in Cape Town Trophy, and wishes the Homeless World Cup every continued success in its aim to eradicate homelessness and poverty the world over.
