The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the recent support from Scottish Gas of £20,000 for the Mid Argyll Community Pool in Lochgilphead; understands that this takes the company's contribution to the pool over the last three years to £60,000; notes that this was marked by a visit to the pool on 3 June 2013 by the double Commonwealth gold medallist and Olympic 400 metre freestyle finalist, David Carry, who described the pool as “an amazing facility used not just by residents and members of the public, but by schools for teaching our kids to swim”; understands that the pool, which faced the threat of closure in 2010 due to a funding shortfall, serves a population of around 10,000 and is the only such facility for nearly 50 miles; congratulates Scottish Gas on making what it considers a valuable contribution to the pool; believes that this helped secure its future at a time when it was facing a challenging financial situation; pays tribute to what it considers the tireless and continuing efforts of all those involved with it, including the pool staff and the board of the Mid Argyll Community Enterprise Ltd, in seeking to attract extra funding in order to achieve a sustainable future for it; wishes them continued success in the future, and hopes that the pool will be a thriving and important community asset.
