The motion

That the Parliament notes that 27 November to 3 December 2013 is the Taiwan Film Festival at Edinburgh’s Filmhouse cinema; notes that the Taiwan Film Festival is part of the 2013-14 Spotlight Taiwan project, a series of events to celebrate contemporary Taiwanese art, culture and cinema in Scotland; further notes that the festival is organised by Dr Chia-Ling Yang of the History of Art department at the University of Edinburgh in collaboration with the Taiwan Ministry of Culture and the Filmhouse cinema; is aware that the festival opened on 27 November with a reception attended by Mr Marc Jenchung Su, the director general of the Taipei Representative Office in Edinburgh, and a showing of the film, Touch of The Light, directed by Jung-chi Chang; considers that this film, based on the real life story of Yu-Siang Huang, a blind piano prodigy from rural Taiwan, who stars as himself, is an inspiration to visually impaired people, and wishes everyone involved in the festival and Spotlight Taiwan success as they seek to promote modern Taiwanese cinematic and cultural excellence.
