National Dignity Action Day
The motion
That the Parliament notes that National Dignity Action Day will be on 1 February 2014 and declares its support for the National Pensioners Convention’s Dignity Code; commends the dignity code’s aim to uphold the rights and maintain the personal dignity of older people, within the context of ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of those who are increasingly less able to care for themselves or properly conduct their affairs; considers that certain practices and actions, such as being abusive or disrespectful in any way, are unacceptable and backs the code’s call for respect, comfort, consideration, the right to complain and advocacy services where appropriate, and calls on all health practitioners, hospitals, care homes and local authorities to adopt the dignity code and put it into practice.
