The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the first round Heritage Lottery Fund award of £969,100 to the Galloway Galleries – Kirkcudbright Art Gallery project and £96,500 to Kirkcudbright Parish Church for its Restoration and Repairs 2013 project; believes that the Galloway Galleries project will create a gallery of national significance to celebrate and promote the unique art heritage of Kirkcudbright, encourage a wide range of local people to discover the significance of that heritage and strengthen Kirkcudbright’s tourism infrastructure, boosting the local, regional and national economy; further believes that the Kirkcudbright Parish Church Restoration and Repairs 2013 project will undertake urgent masonry and window repairs and help toward the installation of new boilers and insulation to make the building more energy efficient, and notes that the church will produce leaflets and a book detailing its history; recognises that a first round pass does not guarantee that a grant will be awarded, but hopes that this recognition will encourage all those concerned with these projects to continue their efforts and bring them to a successful conclusion.
