It’s all Academic, Congratulations to the Accies

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the board, management, players, staff and supporters of Hamilton Academical FC, commonly known as the Accies, on the team’s promotion to the SPFL Premiership; notes that this follows a victory in the play-off against Hibernian FC in which the Accies overturned a 2-0 deficit and won a dramatic penalty shoot-out; welcomes the fact that South Lanarkshire will once again have a team in the top flight of Scottish football; understands that the club, which was formed 140 years ago from the school football team at Hamilton Academy, is the only professional club in British football to have originated from a school team, commends what it sees as the efforts of the chairman, Les Gray, and the board in ensuring that the club continually develops strong links with the community; believes that the secretary, Scott Struthers, has played a huge role in team’s success with his extensive knowledge and commitment to Scottish and European football, applauds player/manager, Alex Neil, on securing this achievement so early in his managerial career, and extends its best wishes to the Accies and the club’s supporters for season 2014-15.
