The motion

That the Parliament congratulates everyone at the Garrowhill Garden Estate Community Group on it being named as the best community garden in Scotland at the 2014 Cultivation Street gardening competition; understands that Cultivation Street is a national campaign in which three or more consecutive households join forces to rejuvenate their front gardens and make their street a nicer place to live; notes that the Garrowhill group has won £500 in gardening vouchers and has been entered in the final to win the accolade, Britain’s Best Street, and a £10,000 prize; commends Barrie Linning, who set up the community group, and all of the volunteers for the action that they have taken to brighten up their community, including tending to the flower beds at Barrachnie Cross, Barrachnie Co-op, Beech Avenue and the Thornbridge roundabout; understands that the judges hailed the Garrowhill group as providing an example of the knock-on effect that gardening has on the wider community atmosphere; further understands that the group has also been awarded its third Level 4 Thriving award from Beautiful Scotland, and wishes its members the best of luck for the final round.
