The motion

That the Parliament recognises the importance of Silver Line Scotland, the free helpline for older people, which is delivered by Age Scotland in partnership with The Silver Line; understands that, via the number, 0800 470 8090, older people can get access to information, friendship and advice 24 hours a day, every day of the year; congratulates the many hardworking volunteers who specialise in enquiries about care, benefits, housing, heating, legal and end-of-life issues for over 12,000 people a year across the country; considers that this is an especially relevant service at a time when the population of Scotland and of Strathkelvin and Bearsden in particular, is an ageing one, and commends the aim of the partnership to assist older people to be happy and healthy, supporting them to live independently at home for as long as possible and helping to overcome the barriers of isolation and loneliness by providing callers with accredited information, advice and friendship from people whom they can trust.
