Glasgow's Memorial to Workplace Accidents

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the memorial to honour people killed or injured in the course of their work that has been unveiled at Glasgow Green; notes that Glasgow City Council and the STUC commissioned the memorial to highlight the preventable nature of many workplace accidents and to support campaigns that promote improvements in workplace safety; understands that the memorial's black and purple theme was chosen from ideas put forward by Glasgow secondary school pupils to reflect the colours associated with International Workers' Memorial Day; further understands that the ceremony was held on 21 October 2014, 43 years after the gas explosion at Clarkston Toll shopping centre, in which 21 were killed more than 100 were injured; further notes that Glasgow City Council and the STUC hope to develop an exhibition in order to deliver a positive health and safety message in the city's schools, and looks forward to the International Workers' Memorial Day commemoration events on 28 April 2015.
