Congratulations to Tom Gilzean on Receiving the Edinburgh Award
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Mr Tom Gilzean on being selected to receive what it considers the prestigious Edinburgh Award, recognising the outstanding contribution that he has made to the city; understands that he is only the eighth person to receive this award; thanks the 94-year-old war veteran for what it sees as his tireless fundraising on the Royal Mile, where he can be seen in his trademark tartan trews almost every day and in all elements; understands that he has raised over £100,000 in support of important Edinburgh causes, including the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and the Prestonfield and District Neighbourhood Workers Project, which provides invaluable day care services for older people in Edinburgh; celebrates the many people like Mr Gilzean who choose to devote their time and energy to raising funds for good causes in their community, and wishes Mr Gilzean every success for the future.
