First Anniversary of the Shockingly Easy Campaign
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the Edinburgh Evening News on the first anniversary of its Shockingly Easy campaign, which aims to install life-saving defibrillators in every sports club in Lothian; notes that the newspaper teamed up with the Jamie Skinner Foundation to launch the campaign; further notes that the foundation was established following the tragic death of the 13-year-old Liberton High School pupil, Jamie, who died while playing for Tynecastle FC; welcomes the news that 75 defibrillators have now been installed throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians since July 2014; notes the donations that the campaign has received from companies and organisations such as Scotmid and the Lothians Health Foundation; understands that these have made it possible for the foundation to provide defibrillators to clubs such as Edinburgh South FC and at other locations, including Edinburgh Waverley station and Edinburgh College; commends Edinburgh Council's announcement that every secondary school in the city will soon be equipped with a defibrillator; notes the Scottish Ambulance Service's call for further education about the importance of defibrillators; understands that, although the use of CPR by bystanders can increase the chances of survival by 50%, every minute without defibrillation can reduce the chances of survival by 10%; thanks everyone involved with the Jamie Skinner Foundation and the Shockingly Easy campaign for helping to save lives, and wishes them well in their ambition to ensure that everyone has access to a defibrillator.
