Motion · S4M-14436 · 1 Oct 2015
Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and the Launch of Scottish Golf
The motion
That the Parliament notes the start of the 15th annual Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, which runs from 1 to 4 October 2015, and is being played at the St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns golf courses; understands that a number of amateur players and celebrities will join professional golfers from Scotland, including Paul Lawrie, Stephen Gallacher, Marc Warren and Richie Ramsay, and international stars, including Louis Oosthuizen, Ernie Els and Darren Clarke; believes that the championship aims to develop young amateur golfers in Scotland and South Africa; understands that the Alfred Dunhill Links Foundation, which was established in 2011, also supports the University of St Andrews and the St Andrews Pilgrim Foundation, and notes that the tournament coincides with the launch of Scottish Golf, which is the new governing body for Scotland’s amateur golfers and replaces the Scottish Golf Union and Scottish Ladies Golf Association, which, it understands, has a key goal of increasing golf club membership.
