The motion

That the Parliament welcomes National Braille Week on 5 to 11 October 2015, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of Braille and other alternative formats that open up the written word to people with visual impairments; congratulates Royal Blind on all its work in supporting visually impaired students to fulfil their potential and in encouraging specialised teacher training; considers that an emphasis placed on training more teachers would enable more children to receive the support that they require to meet the same levels of attainment achieved by their peers who are not visually impaired, whether in mainstream or specialist provision, and welcomes the launch of the Royal Blind Learning Hub, an online learning site providing resources and support for teachers of visually impaired children in mainstream schools.
