The Glover Scottish-Japanese Fusion Whisky
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the launch of what it understands is the world’s first fusion of Scottish and Japanese whiskies, which seeks to celebrate the relationship between Scotland and Japan; notes that the whisky is named The Glover after the Scotsman, Thomas Blake Glover, who had such an important impact on the modernisation of Japan in the 19th century and was the first non-Japanese to be honoured with the Order of the Rising Sun; notes that the whisky is a collaboration between TBG & Co Ltd and Adelphi Distillery Ltd, following an idea by Jim Millar from Arbroath, who has previously been recognised for his work in promoting the relationship between Scotland and Japan; further notes that the blender, the Hon Alex Bruce of Adelphi Distillery Ltd, is the great-great grandson of the Earl of Elgin who signed the first treaty of trade and amity between the UK and Japan in the 19th century; acknowledges what it considers the importance of the relationship between Scotland and Japan, especially in the fields of trade, culture and education, and wishes every success to The Glover in the future.
