Improvements in the Early Detection of Lung Cancer

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the reported 27.4% increase in detection of early stage lung cancer since the launch of the Scottish Government’s Detect Cancer Early programme; understands that people are around 20 times more likely to survive lung cancer if it is detected in its early stages; urges people to look out for the early signs of lung cancer and consult their GP if they experience any symptoms, such as having a cough for more than three weeks, and looks forward to further improvements in survival rates as the Detect Cancer Early programme works toward its goal of achieving a 25% increase in the detection of early stage breast, bowel and lung cancer by the end of 2015.
