Memorial Unveiled to Assynt Crofters’ Leader, Allan Macrae
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the unveiling of a memorial dedicated to Allan Macrae, considered the inspirational leader of the Assynt Crofters’ Trust, who died in tragic circumstances in 2013; notes that the North Assynt estate was bought from foreign owners in 1993 and marked the first crofting community buy-out in modern times; recalls that Allan Macrae brought panache and grit to the fundraising campaign and subsequent development of the crofters’ estate over the intervening years; believes that the memorial built next to the trust’s office at Stoer is an inspiration to future community land ownership, and praises the Assynt Crofters’ Trust for its pioneering work.
