Team GB Celebrate Davis Cup Victory
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Team GB on its players' historic 3-1 victory over Belgium in the final of the 2015 Davis Cup; notes that this was Britain’s first win in the event in 79 years, having last won the trophy in 1936; pays particular tribute to Andy Murray on becoming only the third man in history to end a Davis Cup campaign with an 8-0 singles record and in winning all three matches that he was involved in in the final; applauds the efforts of the team captain, Leon Smith, who has guided Britain from the brink of the Davis Cup fourth tier to champions within five years; hopes that Team GB’s victory can help inspire more young people to become more physically active and increase their interest in playing tennis, and wishes the men’s Davis Cup team, and the women’s Fed Cup team, all the best in the years ahead.
