Edinburgh Napier University Wins the Queen's Anniversary Prize
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Edinburgh Napier University on recently being awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education for 2014-16; understands that this is in recognition of the university’s contribution to economic growth and its work on the environmental benefits to the UK of the timber and construction sector, which includes the development of innovation in timber engineering, sustainable construction and international advancements in wood science; believes that work led by Professor Sean Smith has benefitted students through their participation in the research; understands that this is the second time that the university has won the anniversary prize, which is awarded every two years; believes that its students will benefit from funding by its industry partners toward more than 25 scholarships in timber engineering, and wishes the university well with its postgraduate course in timber architecture, which is scheduled for launch in 2016 and aims to meet what it believes is an increase in demand for specialist skills in this field.
