First Annual Disabled People’s Summit in Scotland

The motion

That the Parliament celebrates the first annual Disabled People’s Summit in Scotland; notes that the summit was held on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and in the year of the 20th anniversary of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995; recognises the Scottish Government's commitment to increase dialogue between ministers and disabled people; applauds the efforts of organisations and individuals who worked to bring forward the summit; understands that it brought together over 140 delegates made up of individuals, organisations for disabled people, allies and representatives from public bodies; praises the role of the summit in providing a platform for disabled people to play an active part in shaping the government’s plan to deliver on the United Nation’s Convention of the Rights of People with Disabilities, and welcomes the Scottish Governments pledge to ensure that disabled people have the same freedom, dignity, choice and control over their lives, with rights to practical assistance and support at home and in the wider community.
