Dark Skies Offer a Bright Future for Moffat
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Moffat on being awarded Dark Sky status by the International Dark Sky Association; understands that Moffat is the first town in Europe to receive this recognition; further understands that this was achieved by the community council working with Dumfries and Galloway Council and a dark sky specialist, using a grant of £240,000 from the Scottish Government to replace all street lights and floodlights in the town with LED bulbs, which direct light downwards, and hopes that this accolade will boost winter tourism in Moffat.
