Scottish Infected Blood Forum

The motion

That the Parliament recognises and welcomes the formation of the Scottish Infected Blood Forum to support people in the north east of Scotland and across the country who have been infected or affected by hepatitis C-contaminated blood as a result of their treatment with NHS blood and blood products; understands that the Scottish Infected Blood Forum represents a distinct group whose infection has been a consequence of receiving, in good faith, simple medical interventions such as blood transfusions rather than as a result of lifestyle choices; understands that this is the only Scotland-wide body set up to provide information, peer support and meeting opportunities for infected and affected individuals, families and carers; looks forward to the Scottish Infected Blood Forum providing a voice for what it considers an otherwise under-recognised cohort of people who are awaiting an opportunity to respond to the final report of the Penrose Inquiry; notes calls for the medical establishment to work collaboratively with the Scottish Infected Blood Forum to raise standards of care, and welcomes the progress made by the forum, which, it understands, has been achieved exclusively through the efforts of volunteers.
