Scottish Canals

The motion

That the Parliament considers that Scotland’s canals have a unique place in industrial history; recognises the work that Scottish Canals undertakes to regenerate and manage the canals and the communities through which the canals pass so that everyone can enjoy the diverse activities taking place on canals in Scotland, including boating, paddle sports, fishing, wildlife watching, cycling, walking, history, volunteering opportunities and holidays; notes what it considers the very significant contribution that Scottish Canals makes to the economy; further notes what it considers the very attractive Kirkintilloch Marina located on the Forth and Clyde Canal in the west of Scotland, and believes that the canals throughout Scotland are an integral and important part of the country's physical infrastructure.
