Robot-assisted Surgery for Prostate Cancer on NHS Scotland
The motion
That the Parliament notes Prostate Cancer UK’s work calling on the Scottish Government to introduce robot-assisted surgery as an option for prostate cancer patients on NHS Scotland, a call renewed at the charity’s Holyrood campaigning day on 7 August 2014; welcomes the Scottish Government’s subsequent announcement on 19 August that the first facilities to allow for the technique are to be made available at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by the beginning of 2015, with an additional facility to be introduced in the central belt within the next three years as part of a national roll-out; congratulates everyone who worked and campaigned for this outcome, and looks forward to the day when all men who require a radical prostatectomy are able to make an informed choice between robot-assisted and other forms of surgery on NHS Scotland.
