Vandalised Hermitage Horticulture Garden Receives Support for Repairs

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Big Charity Gala on raising £320 for the Hermitage Horticulture Garden in Edinburgh; understands that the community garden, which is run by Autism Initiatives, was vandalised twice in July 2015, which led to £6,000 worth of damage; applauds the staff at the garden and its service users on developing a project that uses polytunnels to grow fresh fruit and vegetables, high-raised beds for planting and has an outdoor kitchen; understands that the garden helps people with autism learn skills in gardening, food growing and woodwork and aims to help them develop self-confidence in a safe and secure environment; believes that the vandalism has both caused a financial setback and had an emotional impact on the service users; commends the London-based comedian, Stu Turner, who, after learning about the vandalism, felt compelled to help by organising the gala; also praises Lisanne Valente, who is the parent of one of the garden’s service users, on a crowdfunding campaign that has raised £2,560, and hopes that the funds raised from the gala and Lisanne's crowdfunding will help to ensure that the repair work can start as soon as possible.
