Legion d’Honneur Awarded to Jim Glennie from Bridge of Don
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Jim Glennie from Bridge of Don in Aberdeen, who is a 90-year-old veteran of the Second World War, on being awarded the Legion d’Honneur in recognition of the crucial role that he played in the D-Day landings at the age of 18; understands that, after surviving the initial shelling and gunfire, Mr Glennie, who served as a rifleman in the Gordon Highlanders, was shot and captured; notes that the Legion d’Honneur is France’s highest military medal; believes that this award is a sign of the French Government’s recognition of the acts of heroism and the determination that were displayed by the veterans of the Normandy landings; thanks Mr Glennie for his efforts in the liberation of Europe during the war, and commends him on this latest recognition of his service.
