The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the Glasgow Marathon Campaign, which is seeking to reinstate the full-distance marathon race in the city; understands that there has been an increase in the range and popularity of road-running events in the city; considers that, given Glasgow’s status as Scotland’s largest city and experience in hosting major sporting and cultural events, a marathon would provide a tremendous financial, cultural and health boost; recalls the marathons that were held in Glasgow from 1979 to 1988; looks forward to the 2014 Commonwealth Games, which will see a race over the distance through the city's streets, and notes the aims of the Glasgow Marathon Campaign.
