The motion

That the Parliament expresses its sadness at the death, at the age of 106, of Sir Nicholas Winton, whose kindertransports earned him the name “the British Schindler”; sends its sincere condolences to Sir Nicholas’s family and friends; is aware that he organised the rescue of 669 Jewish children destined for the Nazi concentration camps by arranging for them to be transported to the UK, where they were placed with foster families; notes that he was knighted by Her Majesty The Queen in 2003 and that in 2014 he was awarded the Order of the White Lion, the highest state honour of the Czech Republic, and hopes that Sir Nicholas’s exceptional humanity and modesty will continue to inspire this and future generations.
