The motion

That the Parliament congratulates all those who participated in the Butt to Barra 2015 cycle challenge on raising in excess of £50,000; understands that the money will go to local charities, with Macmillan Cancer Support receiving £40,000 and Crossroads Care receiving £10,000; believes that over five years the local police sergeant, George Lewis Murray, has organised events raising a total of £145,000; understands that cyclists from all walks of life and all levels of fitness took part in the challenge and, despite adverse weather conditions, all completed the course; believes that, due to the money raised from the event, the Isle of Lewis Macmillan Committee is the highest fund generator in the UK; further believes that, over the years, numbers participating have ranged from 10 in the beginning to 50 this year; considers this event to be a tremendous contributor to local causes, and hopes that it will continue after the retirement of Mr Murray.
